Google Health is an online tool that serves as a repostiory for web-users for storing a variety of health-related personal information at a single place, and thereby functions as one stop destination for accessing these crucial records in future. The application allows its members to amass their health-records, in an organized manner that can be quickly retrieved. User can include details about their health conditions, medications, lab results and allergies etc and once the users have fed their health-information, Google Health provides users with information on conditions, a merged health record, possible interactions between drugs, conditions and allergies. This application is an opt-in service, which does not retrieves any information of the user’s medical profile without their explicit consent and action. Since mid 2006, the development work on Google Health has continued, but it was only in the year 2008, that the application underwent a pilot test for two months with over 1,600 patients of ‘The Cleveland Clinic.’ Then on May 20, 2008, finally the application ‘Google Health’ was released to the general public, when the beta version of the application was unveiled. Google Health will be discontinued as a service in January 2012.
